Greetings Skinner Family,

Please click here to view my latest Principal's Report that was presented on January 24, 2012 at the LSC meeting.

Parents,

Just a reminder that Ms. Kong, our Mandarin teacher, needs the following information as soon as possible, for all students that participated in the recent Chinese New Year celebrations:

  1. Student's Media Consent Form. If you haven't sent in the form or need another copy, click here to get an electronic version. All forms can be put into Ms. Kong's mailbox, found in the Main Office.
  2. Photos and videos taken at Furama Restaurant (January 25th) and at our Chinese New Year celebration at school (January 30th). All copies can be sent to Ms. Kong via CD or email at culturalelements@yahoo.com.

Lastly, if you'd like to get a glimpse of some of the festive activities that took place at Furama Restaurant, click here to see some photos and also take a look at a recent article in a local Chinatown newspaper, highlighting the event.

Grab your sweethearts and get ready for a weekend on the slopes!

Young Authors Competition Guidelines

Dear Parents,

The 1st-8th grade Young Authors Competition is coming up! Each classroom is on their own schedule due to field trips, days off, testing, etc.  Please see the information sent home by classroom teachers for your student's Young Authors timeline and due date.  All students have had the opportunity to begin their Young Authors books in school and will complete them at home. Please be supportive of your child's story writing, and remember the final product should be student-created. Click here to view the competition guidelines.

Vegetables

The Skinner Edible Schoolyard will now meet weekly on Wednesday's at 4:30 pm, in the school cafeteria. Please email edibleschoolyardchi@gmail.com to confirm if you will be in attendance or if you have any feedback or assistance in helping with the garden.

Do you love books so much you want everyone to read?

Be a part of World Book Night.

World Book Night launched in the U.K. in 2011 and saw passionate readers across the country, give 1 million books to light or non readers to spread the joy and love of reading. Reading changes lives and is fundamental to helping our children. At the heart of World Book Night lies the simplest of ideas and acts - that of putting a book into another person's hand and encouraging them to read it.

World Book Night 2012 will be held on April 23 - in the U.S. and the U.K. - and we're looking for 50,000 volunteer book givers to hand out 20 copies each - for a total of 1 million free special World Book Night paperbacks!

If you are interested in signing up, please visit:  http://www.us.worldbooknight.org/about-world-book-night/register-as-a-2012-giver. Signups are due no later than Monday, February 6th.
