Our annual Holiday Bazaar has been moved to Friday, December 23rd.

We are still accepting new or gently used donations (e.g. small gift items, books, collectibles, toys, jewelry, etc) in the designated box in the main lobby or the main office.  (Please label donations "Holiday Bazaar").  Parent volunteers are still needed to assist with sorting, pricing and selling on the day of the sale.

On Friday, December 23rd, the children will be given the opportunity to purchase  items starting at 25 cents to give away as holiday presents to family and friends, while truly "making it their own" gift selection.  If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Ash @ kathryn.ash@att.net.

Siblings Entering Skinner?

Don't put all your eggs in one basket!! Remember, there are several ways for a sibling to enroll into Skinner for Kdg, 1st , 2nd and 3rd grades for the 2012-2013 school year.  The first way  is through applying for the Classical Program by completing the Selective Enrollment Application for Elementary Schools.  The second is through completing a separate application (Options for Knowledge Standard Elementary Application) for the lottery for the neighborhood/magnet component of Skinner West.  Both applications must be received by the Office of Academic Enhancement by Friday, December 16, 2011 via the online process at www.apply.cps.edu or by paper application.  Best wishes to all of our siblings who will be participating in the testing and /or lottery process for enrollment.

Primary Chorus got off to a great start and had their first concert at Fulton River Park last Saturday, December 3rd. A fun-filled time was had by all. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our Superstars!

On Monday November 14, 2011, Mr. Chau's  3rd grade class crafted a letter to the President of the United States, Barack Obama. The intent of the letter was to persuade President Obama to pardon a turkey of their own creation. The underlying skills that were reinforced in this activity were formatting a letter and refining persuasive skills. Through a brilliant stroke of fortune and generosity, the letters were hand delivered to President Obama and a reply was submitted back to our wonderful students. Many thanks go to the Wilson family for making the learning process a truly exhilarating life experience for the grateful third grade students in Room 220!

Project SYNCERE will begin a new session of its Emerging Engineers Program January 21, 2012. The classes will meet every Saturday on the campus of University of Illinois at Chicago. The objective of this program is to provide students with a comprehensive STEM program that will build their skills in math, science and engineering. The program was started due to the demand from students and parents who were interested in the Emerging Engineers Program but did not attend the schools where the program was offered. This program will target middle school and high school students who have a true passion for engineering. Applications are now being accepted for the winter session; only 20 students will be chosen to participate in each of the two programs. Click here to fill out the on-line application. The application is due by Friday December 23, 2011. Past participants are required to re-apply.
